Student Intern - CISS Choir Manager

Founded in 2021, the Choir of the Canadian International School System – CISS Choir, was formed to give our students an outstanding education and experience in choral singing performance.

It seeks to reflect a positive image of youth by developing its members’ choral skills and by encouraging them to help each other and to contribute to the welfare of the local community through their performances and other activities.

  • The CISS Choir is seeking a Student Intern to assist with the management of the choir. The successful candidate would work as part of a 4-person Management Team and would
  • report to the choir’s Manager and Artistic Director and would be responsible for the day to day operation of the CISS Choir office and the choir’s weekly rehearsals, concerts, activities and functions. Presently there are over 120 students in the choir and the choir promises to continue to grow in popularity and outreach to the community in the coming year


  • Field all phone calls pertaining to the choir’s operations and functions - liaise with the local orphanage and local school for the blind regarding choir events and functions.
  • Accept all mail, email and faxes on behalf of the choir – contact pertinent individuals in the CISS Choir organization


  • Arrive at 2:30 p.m. for 3:00 p.m. rehearsal of the CISS Choir (Tuesdays) 

  • Supervise the “set-up” of the rehearsal hall by choir monitors (chairs/white board music folders etc.)

  • Oversee the taking of attendance.

  • Maintain attendance record.

  • Check voice-mail for reported chorister absences.

  • Ensure smooth physical running of the choir rehearsal.

  • Liaise with chorister parents around choir issues – attendance and expectations.

  • Collect money and forms as needed.

  • Distribute newsletters.

  • Liaise with parent volunteers.

  • Liaise with and offer direction to assistant managers (high school students) 

  • Assist in maintaining choir discipline.

  • Supervise the “put away” of all chairs and materials from rehearsals.

  • Remain at rehearsals until all is complete – around 5:30 p.m.

Additional Duties:

  • Prepare and distribute newsletters (computer skills an asset) 

  • Maintain chorister data base (addresses/phone numbers etc.) 

  • Book transportation for choir – buses, car pools etc.

  • Book meeting room/classroom for meetings and extra rehearsals and functions

  • Photocopying

  • Maintain the CISS Choir office 

  • Order supplies and keep stocked assist with the mailings and other matters with regard to concerts.

  • Attend CISS Choir Board meetings – 3rd Friday each month.

  • Deliver Manager’s Report at the Board meetings.

  • Maintain, with parental assistance, the uniforms of the choir.

  • Attend concerts and performances of the choir 

  • Supervise and assist choristers.

  • Ensure CISS Choir information table is set-up with pertinent information at concerts and staff the table to answer questions about our choir.

  • Book auditions and assist with the audition process of the choir each spring (two to three sessions at each of the CISS schools – two evenings and on Saturday morning perhaps involved as well).


The successful candidate must possess the following qualities and attributes:

  • Completed Grade 12 (any program)

  • Fully bilingual (Vietnamese and English)

  • Computer skills: WORD, database creation and management; Google suite

  • Superior organizational skills

  • Self-starter (see what needs to be done and do it attitude)

  • Team player – work together in various teams in the organization

  • Enjoy children/students.

  • Musical experience an asset (*possibility of an additional internship in choral conducting concurrently with this position)

The successful candidate must be available to work approximately 10 hours per week – several of those hours must be worked on Tuesdays from 1:00-5:30 pm – the set-up, rehearsal and put-away time for the weekly rehearsal of the choir. The remaining hours can be worked in a flexible manner during the hours of operation of the Canadian International School or at home.

The CISS Choir Office is located in Office D106 at the Canadian International School, Road 23, Tan Phu Ward, Phu My Hung, TP HCM. The choir’s weekly rehearsal takes place in the Terry Fox Room of the Canadian International School – 2nd floor.

Salary: 2M VND per month with the possibility of bonuses and incentives
